Encrypt/Decrypt File
Available for: Single or Multiple Files

This tool encrypts or decrypts one or more files using strong 448-bit Blowfish encryption combined with a private key of up to 56 characters in length. The key you choose is case-sensitive. When encrypting or decrypting a file, the original file is not replaced unless you check the box below the private-key fields.

The encrypted or decrypted file will be created in the same folder as the original. Encrypted files have the same name as the original (including extension), plus an .ste extension. So if you encrypt a file named MyFile.doc, the resulting encrypted file will be named MyFile.doc.ste. The encrypted file will have a different icon, showing you at a glance that the file has been encrypted by ShellToys XP.

If a file already exists with the same name, a prompt dialog will give you the choice of replacing it or cancelling the operation.

Do not change the .ste extension of encrypted files. ShellToys and Windows use this extension to recognize an encrypted file.

When selecting files to encrypt or decrypt, the Encrypt and Decrypt items will only be shown if every selected file is either encrypted or unencrypted. If you select a combination of encrypted and unencrypted files, neither item will be available.
